Blue-water and long-distance cover

Genuinely worldwide, no hurricane or cyclone exclusion clauses, single-handed sailing and unwatched anchoring covered, berth anywhere in the world.

This page is a summary in English. Policy wording and terms are issued in German and prevail in case of doubt.

Why the small print decides

On a long voyage the wording matters more than the premium. Many policies restrict cover during the storm season or tie it to conditions: extra lashing, additional fenders, unstepping the mast, leaving a defined zone by a fixed date. If those conditions are not met, the insurer may reduce or refuse payment.

Definitions differ, too. A tropical storm counts as a hurricane once it is named by a body such as the National Hurricane Centre; with several providers from around 63 km/h, with one only from 118 km/h. NAMMERT does without hurricane and cyclone exclusion clauses altogether.

What our blue-water cover includes

A genuinely worldwide cruising range with no time limit and no geographical restriction. Your berth does not have to be in Europe. Single-handed sailing is covered, as is lying at anchor off an open coast without a watch on board, both frequent exclusions elsewhere.

In the premium tariff: €50m liability and pollution cover, salvage costs up to €2.5m including wreck removal, a criminal bail loan up to €200,000 under the premium liability cover, an unlimited agreed value, gross negligence covered up to 50 per cent of the sum insured, travel and medical assistance, spare parts sourcing and a cash service after robbery abroad.

Which yachts we accept

Yachts older than 25 years or with a market value below €80,000 are accepted; both are common grounds for refusal. Steel, aluminium and GRP hulls, catamarans and trimarans are insurable, and we can add machinery cover as an all-risks extension for engines and auxiliary systems.

Loyalty benefits matter on a long voyage: deductibles reduced by 50 per cent for long-standing customers, and a no-claims protector after five years so the discount survives a claim.

Support while you are away

An international network of certified yards, maritime organisations and surveyors handles spare parts, repairs and on-site support. Our app accompanies the voyage with a digital logbook including GPS, a 24/7 emergency function and a direct line to support.

Members of Trans-Ocean e.V. receive a 10 per cent discount on the worldwide cover on presentation of their membership.

Frequently asked questions

Are there hurricane exclusions?

No. We do without hurricane and cyclone exclusion clauses entirely, and there are no additional securing requirements during the storm season.

Is single-handed sailing covered?

Yes, and so is lying at anchor off an open coast without a watch on board; both are frequently excluded elsewhere.

Does my berth have to be in Europe?

No. Your berth may be anywhere in the world, and the worldwide range applies without a time limit.

Can older yachts be insured?

Yes; yachts older than 25 years or with a market value below €80,000 are accepted.
