This page is a summary in English. Policy wording and terms are issued in German and prevail in case of doubt.

What we insure

Motor boats, sailing boats, yachts, catamarans, jet skis, e-foils and jet boards, houseboats, inflatables and RIBs, rowing boats, dinghies, trailers and watersports equipment, from the club lake to a circumnavigation.

The manufacturer never decides insurability. What matters is boat type, value, year of build, engine power or sail area, cruising range and use. Yachts older than 25 years or with a market value below €80,000 are accepted, as are home-built boats.

How the cover is built

Third-party liability is the basis and covers personal injury, property and financial loss to others, with sums insured of €10m, €25m or €50m. Hull cover protects your own boat: limited cover for fire, storm, lightning, theft of the whole boat and winter storage; comprehensive cover adds collision, grounding, capsizing, sinking, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard.

Personal accident cover for skipper and crew and legal expenses cover complete the package. Trailer and dinghy can be included, and the international certificate of insurance is issued automatically in ten languages.

Why an underwriting agency

NAMMERT is an Assekuradeur, an underwriting agency with binding authority. We assess the risk, issue the policy and settle claims ourselves. That means short decision paths, a policy on the day you apply and one contact person when something happens.

It also means we can write risks others exclude: racing and training, jet skis and e-foils, home-built boats, older yachts, single-handed sailing and cruising through hurricane regions without exclusion clauses.

Frequently asked questions

What does boat insurance cost?

Liability starts at around €39 a year, limited hull cover at €199 and comprehensive hull cover at €219. The premium depends on value, year of build, engine power or sail area, cruising range and deductible.

Is boat insurance compulsory in Germany?

No, but you remain personally liable for damage you cause. Italy, Croatia, Denmark and Spain do require third-party liability cover, and many marinas ask for proof.

Can I insure a boat bought abroad?

Yes. Keep the bill of sale as proof of value and, when importing, the evidence of VAT payment. Cover can start before handover so that slipping and transport are already protected.
