Interboot 2026 puts beginners and electric boats centre stage

Interboot, the boat show on the German shore of Lake Constance, opens on 23 September 2026 and runs until 27 September. The organiser is focusing on newcomers to boating, electric propulsion and refitting boats people already own.

Interboot takes place at Messe Friedrichshafen, the exhibition centre on the German shore of Lake Constance, from 23 to 27 September 2026. It opens daily from 10 am to 6 pm and closes at 5 pm on Sunday. Boats are shown in eight halls as well as on the show's own lake and in the Interboot harbour, where visitors can see them afloat. The InterDive diving show runs alongside from 24 to 27 September on the same ticket.

New this year is the E-Boat Area in hall B2, where, according to the organiser, exhibitors present boats with electric drives and other alternative propulsion. Hall A4 hosts a new Refit Center dedicated to maintaining and modernising existing boats, aimed at owners who would rather upgrade what they have than replace it.

The special show Mein erstes Boot (My First Boat), run with the German boating magazine float in hall B3, features both sailing boats and motorboats for newcomers and also covers financing and insurance questions. The organiser has additionally named women in water sports as one of this year's themes.

For visitors the show is a chance to compare boats for inland lakes side by side, and to see some of them in the water rather than on a stand. Anyone ordering a boat there should work out beforehand where it will be kept, which licence the intended waters require and what a mooring and winter storage will cost.

What this means for owners

A boat show changes nothing about insurance, but it is often where a purchase starts. Buyers should decide before signing when protection needs to begin, at the latest at handover and, for a trailer boat, ideally before the first trip home. With electric boats it is worth checking that the battery and charging equipment are described correctly when applying, because after a fire or water damage those are the first points examined. The boats concerned are mainly small motorboats, dinghies and trailer boats bought by newcomers, plus owners weighing an electric conversion or a refit.

EU lists new standards for electric power and reboarding

Since March 2026 two ISO standards count as harmonised under the EU Recreational Craft Directive: one on measuring and declaring the power of electric propulsion, one on protection from falling overboard and means of reboarding.
