Compare tariffs

The premium difference shows every year. The cover difference shows once.

And that once is usually expensive. Both are set out below, without decoration.

A guide based on our own wording. Your policy governs; ask us for it before you sign, and read it.

Which one fits which situation

Basis

A small boat, or a certificate for the marina

Liability only. It makes sense when the hull is worth little enough that you would carry a total loss yourself without it hurting.

Basis-Plus

The usual choice

Full hull cover with an agreed value, gross negligence to 25 %, and no excess on total loss or theft. For most boats kept in Europe this is the balance point.

Premium

High value, or sailing far

Unlimited agreed value, gross negligence to 50 %, osmosis and six weeks outside the area. Past a certain sum the premium difference is smaller than the risk it removes.

How to compare two quotes properly

Write down what the policy wording says, not what the brochure says. If a figure is missing, ask in writing; if the answer stays vague, that is an answer in itself.

Agreed value or market value, the line that decides a total loss.

A sub-limit per injured person, not only the overall liability cap.

Gross negligence: a percentage of the sum, or a fixed cap in euros.

Salvage: paid on top of the settlement, or taken out of it.

Cruising area, and whether cover runs all twelve months.

Excess: amount, exceptions, and whether it falls with claim-free years.

At the end compare the amount invoiced, not the premium: policy fee, issuing charge and instalment loading all add up.

The three questions you actually have

Not “what does it cost”; you can work that out yourself in a minute. These are the three nobody asks an insurer out loud. Here they are, with the answers we can back up.

“Will they actually pay?”

We are an Assekuradeur; a managing general agent that underwrites and settles claims under its own authority. Our own claims department, appointed surveyors, more than 2,000 partner yards. Cover checked within 24 hours, release or a survey appointment within 48. We settle directly with the yard; you pay the deductible and nothing else.

“Who picks up the phone?”

A family firm since 1989, now in its second generation, with three of its own offices: Königs Wusterhausen near Berlin, Salzburg and Palma de Mallorca. No call centre, no franchise. You get a named contact from the first hour; and after office hours, a number somebody answers.

“And if I choose wrong?”

Find the same cover cheaper elsewhere and we make up the difference. Our comparison sets seven providers against the same criteria; including the segments where somebody else comes out ahead of us, and the one where we are the most expensive in the field.

The policy wording is German; we go through it with you in English Our terms and conditions, the insurance product information documents and the cancellation notice exist in German, and the German wording is the binding one. We will not pretend otherwise. What we do: send you the product information documents translated, and walk you through the cover on the phone in English before you sign anything. The full cover, clause by clause, is written out in English on our detail page. Ask us for the documents and we send them the same working day. Any translation we provide is a courtesy translation; in case of doubt the German version prevails. Read the cover in full Request the documents
