What to put in the first e-mail

With these details we answer in one round instead of three.

A quote Type of boat, length, year, engine power, value and home port. That produces a figure; the binding offer follows with the full details.

A certificate for the marina The name of the harbour and the sum they require. Usually issued the same day, in the language they ask for.

A claim Policy number, place and date, what happened, and a few photographs. If a third party is involved, their details and insurer.

A change to the contract What changes; value after a refit, a new berth, a wider cruising area, a change of owner, and from which date.

English in conversation, German in the contract

We advise, quote and handle claims in English, and the international insurance certificate comes in ten languages. The policy wording itself is German and governed by German law; that is what an authority or a court would read, and translating it would create two versions that could differ.

Ask us for an English summary of any clause before you sign. We would rather explain it twice than have you discover it after a claim.
