Jetski insurance
The small print decides
Jetski policies look alike until a claim. Then three lines decide the outcome: how the value is set, whether an immobiliser was required, and whether the machine was allowed to be on the water at that hour.
In short
What does jetski insurance cost?
Liability from 99 euros a year, partial cover from 169 euros, full cover from 219 euros. We insure to an agreed value rather than a depreciation scale, with no hours limit and no requirement for an approved immobiliser, and liability up to 50 million euros. Premium also removes the night clause.
Figures from the NAMMERT tariff, August 2026, annual premium including insurance tax.
Partial cover and full cover
Partial covers the machine at rest. Full adds what happens while it is being ridden.
The clauses that decide a claim
Five of these six lines are where competing wordings differ.
Agreed value, not a scale
The sum is fixed in the policy. Other wordings pay a percentage of the new price by year of build, and that percentage is always lower than you remember.
No immobiliser clause
Theft cover does not depend on an approved immobiliser being fitted and switched on. Read that line in every other quote.
Night clause removed in Premium
Standard wordings exclude theft between certain hours unless the machine is in a locked building. Premium drops that condition.
No hours limit
No cap on operating hours and no mileage clause, so a well used machine does not quietly fall out of cover.
Trailer included
Carried in the liability section from Basis-Plus, coupled or uncoupled, with no separate German insurance certificate needed.
Liability to 50 million euros
Personal injury, property and financial loss, worldwide within the agreed cruising area.
Our own survey
As at 1 August 2026Six providers, two jetskis, one and the same enquiry
On 1 August 2026 we put the same enquiry to six providers, for the same two craft: Jetski, 115 hp, year of build 2023, insured value 11.500 € with a 1.300 € trailer; Jetski, 250 hp, year of build 2026, insured value 30.000 € with a 1.500 € trailer. The quotations received and the policy wordings behind them became 25 points of cover. They stand here line by line, with the source, including where somebody else comes out ahead.
What is compared is what each policy wording says, not what advertising promises. Where no reliable source was available to us for a provider, the table says “Not examined” instead of a guess; those lines count neither for nor against us in the scoreboard.

| Which perils are covered at allAll-risks cover means everything is insured that is not expressly excluded. With named perils the opposite applies: only what is listed is covered. Collision, grounding and operating errors are rarely on that list. For each provider this row rests on the work cited with it: our own conditions, Bavaria (BKNZ 2016 with the 2020 jet-ski clause), Pantaenius (PYB part A6), HKVA (AVB Yachtkasko 2024), Helvetia (AVB Wassersportkasko 2024 with TR-WspkJ-2404) and Schomacker (rate sheet 01/2025 plus the yacht hull conditions sent to us with the jetski papers). | All risks cover: everything is insured that is not excludedNAMMERT policy wording, as at 01.02.2026 | All-risks cover for the craft including its machinery; damage to the machinery, however, is only indemnified if caused by fire, explosion, lightning, theft, force majeure or vandalismPantaenius Yacht Conditions (PYB), Part A6 Jetski Hull Conditions (D/D/PYB/0921), § 3 and § 5 no. 7 | All-risks cover, partial losses without "new for old" deduction. Damage to the machinery, to electrically or motor-driven technical equipment and to personal effects is only indemnified if caused by an accident to the craft, fire, singeing, scorching, lightning, explosion, force majeure, vandalism or theft. Note: clause 1.2.5 of the conditions lists jetskis under "not insured", while the jet-ski clause in clause 21 presupposes a jetski as an insured craft and governs the deductible alone; the quotation insures the jetski directly as watersports hull cover on an all-risks basisHKVA AVB Yachtkasko 2024, clauses 1.2.5, 5.2.1, 7.6 and 21, plus the insurance product information document; HKVA quotation of 2 June 2026 | Two variants: comprehensive cover on an all-risks basis (comfort conditions) or partial cover on named perils - fire, direct lightning strike, explosion, theft of the jetski, wind force 8 and upwards, and transport accidents. | Waiver of the gross negligence defenceWithout a waiver the insurer may reduce the payment under section 81 of the German Insurance Contract Act in proportion to the degree of fault, down to refusing it altogether. On a jetski that is the normal case, not the exception: the glance sideways before the collision, the grounding in shallow water, the start without a clear view of the swimming area. Where the entries come from: if a source is named under a value, that is the concrete source, a policy wording or a quotation available to us. Where nothing is named, this applies: Own survey, as at 1 August 2026, without a reference in the policy wording. The NAMMERT entries follow our own policy wording. Cover and premiums may have changed since; what governs is the wording of the provider concerned. The names given are trade marks of the respective companies.
What quotations leave out
Six points of liability cover that no quotation spells out
Quotations name the limit. What they rarely name: how it is split between several injured parties, and what happens to the trailer and to the passenger. On a jetski those are exactly the cases that occur.
Basis: NAMMERT policy wording as at 01.02.2026, in each case with the tariff level. The column headed others describes practice common in the market and the quotations from our survey of 1 August 2026; it is not a quotation from any one provider. The figures given for the pooled sum system and for the financial loss limit come from a competitor quotation and wording of 27.05.2026 that is available to us. The only statement naming a provider, the one on shortfall cover at HKVA, rests on our review of the HKVA documents available to us as at 1 August 2026. Personal liability of the rider, towed sports equipment and passenger accident cover were not asked for as comparison points in the survey; check your existing policy on precisely those places.

On jetskis we are not the cheapest provider
That is what our own survey says, and we write it down: for hull cover on the 250 hp jetski we come fourth of five documented quotations. In liability it is the other way round: at the same EUR 10 million of cover our premium of EUR 199.00 is lower than every comparison figure, the cheapest competing premium being EUR 223.13. We show no premiums for Pantaenius here because we hold no quotation for this jetski, and we no longer show competitors' premiums for the smaller 115 hp jetski because the underlying quotations are not on file. The five hull premiums are not like for like: deductible, sum insured, policy term and any discounts included differ, and what applies to each premium is stated beneath that premium.
Look at the hull premium alone and you will find cheaper offers than ours. But four questions decide what that premium was worth. Does cover respond to every damage to your own machine, or only to named perils? What applies on a total loss, an assessed value or the agreed sum? Which exclusions and conditions are in the wording, on gross negligence for instance? And what does the contract demand in a theft, from the immobiliser to where the craft is kept? The answers are in the table above.
And so that this does not stay a straw man: for the 250 hp jetski Schomacker had the lowest hull premium in the field at EUR 841.93, EUR 327.60 below ours. Anyone looking only at the annual premium is cheaper off there. The difference lies in three rows that only become visible when a claim happens. First, settlement: on a total loss their rate sheet says the jetski's current value is assessed, whereas with us the agreed sum applies. For the brand-new craft compared here that makes little difference in the first year, and more with every year that passes. Second, the deductible: theirs is EUR 1,000 per claim, while with us the deductible falls away on total loss, theft, burglary, personal effects and the trailer. Third, theft: only aggravated theft is covered there - the thief must overcome an obstacle and use force, simple theft is not indemnified - and the trailer needs its own liability cover for EUR 24.99. We require an immobiliser or a locked room in none of our tariffs; they are required by other providers in this comparison, not by Schomacker. Whether that is worth the difference is your decision; we set out both sides.

Why our liability cover is good value even though the premium is not the lowest
Liability premiums can only be compared if the sum insured is part of the sum. For the 250 hp jetski our policy cost EUR 199.00 for EUR 10 million and EUR 299.00 for EUR 50 million of cover. Converted to one million of cover, showing for each provider the best of the levels quoted:
Jetski 115 hp · per million € of cover
Jetski 250 hp · per million € of cover
To keep the comparison fair, each provider is shown with the best ratio across all the levels they quoted, not with their smallest cover. For the larger jetski we offer three levels: EUR 10, 25 and 50 million. Anyone choosing the highest pays EUR 5.98 per million and stands ahead of the best competing figure of EUR 12.15 (Helvetia, EUR 242.95 for EUR 20 million). Anyone taking only EUR 10 million pays EUR 19.90 and sits mid-field: with us the sum insured is the lever, not the base premium. One row is missing here, for Pantaenius: we hold no quotation for this jetski.
The deductible, or the limit, is stated with every premium; a low premium with a high deductible or a small limit is not a low premium.
Why the lowest hull premium is not the lowest price
The premiums above stand side by side as though they were the same thing. They are not: the deductible ranges from EUR 500 to EUR 1,000, the sum insured from EUR 30,000 to EUR 31,500, and one quotation contains a 40 per cent no-claims discount. Anyone who has a single claim pays premium and deductible together, and then the order looks different.
Jetski, 250 hp, value 30.000 €
To keep this honest: what follows is a worked example for a year with exactly one claim large enough to reach the deductible, not a ranking. Anyone without a claim pays only the premium, in which case the order above applies and we stand fourth of five. Three figures in this table are not like the others: the Bavaria premium of EUR 941.25 is the premium after a 40 per cent no-claims discount, while the quotation states an annual premium of EUR 1,568.75; without that discount Bavaria would stand here at EUR 2,068.75, in fourth place. The Helvetia premium of EUR 1,821.77 includes a 20 per cent combination discount and applies to a three-year term rather than one year. And the premiums from Bavaria and Helvetia cover a sum insured of EUR 31,500 including the trailer, those from HKVA and Schomacker EUR 30,000 without it. What the calculation shows is this: premium and deductible do not move in step, the lowest premium in the field does not belong to the policy with the lowest deductible, and anyone who reads only the first column will not see it.
Our own survey of 1 August 2026: an identical enquiry to six providers for the same two craft, evaluated from the quotations received and from publicly available sources. If you want to check the figures: provider, line, value and source are set out above in full, including where we come off worse.

Racing is a separate question
Club events, freeride competitions and closed course racing are not inside a standard jetski policy anywhere. We write the racing risk ourselves, which is rare in Germany, but it has to be agreed before the first start, not after the first incident.
If you never race, say so and the premium reflects it. If you do, tell us the series: the difference between a club fun run and a national championship matters more than the machine.

The three questions you actually have
Not “what does it cost”; you can work that out yourself in a minute. These are the three nobody asks an insurer out loud. Here they are, with the answers we can back up.
“Will they actually pay?”
We are an Assekuradeur; a managing general agent that underwrites and settles claims under its own authority. Our own claims department, appointed surveyors, more than 2,000 partner yards. Cover checked within 24 hours, release or a survey appointment within 48. We settle directly with the yard; you pay the deductible and nothing else.
What happens in the first 48 hours →“Who picks up the phone?”
A family firm since 1989, now in its second generation, with three of its own offices: Königs Wusterhausen near Berlin, Salzburg and Palma de Mallorca. No call centre, no franchise. You get a named contact from the first hour; and after office hours, a number somebody answers.

Find the same cover cheaper elsewhere and we make up the difference. Our comparison sets seven providers against the same criteria; including the segments where somebody else comes out ahead of us, and the one where we are the most expensive in the field.
