Outboard stolen from a sports boat even though it was locked on; the boat was then found drifting. Police have issued an international alert.

Boat taken from its mooring and the engine removed somewhere quiet. It had been drifting for about two weeks before the report, so the theft dates from early August. The engine is on the police wanted list.

In Germany the water police engrave outboards, boats and kit such as binoculars or chartplotters with an individual number free of charge, and add a clearly visible sticker. Engraved gear is hard to sell on, so thieves tend to leave it. Bring photo ID and proof of ownership such as a bill of sale or invoice.

Photograph the engine and hull numbers and keep the pictures, lock the outboard with an engine lock and the trailer with a wheel clamp, and do not leave the boat on the street ashore. Without the numbers a boat is hard to identify after a theft. All topics in English
