The value gap

The older your classic, the further two figures drift apart

Drag the year of build to the left. One line is the market value an ordinary policy pays. The other is what the yard charges for the rebuild. In between lies your money.

agreed valueYardMarket value19301950197019902010
Market-value policy pays €6,000
The yard charges €182,000
Your gap €176,000 This is the sum you would have to pay out of your own pocket on a total loss to restore the boat to what it was.

A model calculation for illustration, not market data. A surveyor values your boat, and the agreed value follows that, not this curve.

What the agreed value makes of it

A straight line instead of a gap

With a fixed agreed value we settle an amount in advance, the horizontal line in the chart. On a total loss it is paid out, with no deduction for age and no surveyor dispute over market value. The gap does not close by itself; you have to tie it shut.

What supports the agreed value

A valuation survey, restoration invoices and comparable sales. We tell you beforehand what we need.

Adjust after every refit

New rig, new engine, new underwater hull: whoever does not update the agreed value has not insured the investment.

The yard you trust

With classics it matters who repairs. Name us the yard before something happens, not after.
