Colombo has been building boats with the typical lobster line on Lake Como for decades. Well-kept examples hold their value and some even rise. For insurance purposes this means that the depreciated value systematically underestimates these boats, that an agreed value based on the market value is the right approach, and that it should be adjusted after every refit.

On the lake there is a further focus of losses of its own: thunderstorm squalls off the mountains that build up within minutes. Storm is covered under the limited hull cover, provided the boat is properly moored. Anyone whose berth lies in an open bay should regard fenders and lines as an investment, not as an accessory.
