Monterey Boats; cover, cost and conditions
In Florida, Monterey builds bowriders, deck boats and sport cruisers between 5.5 and 13 metres. The boats come with a sterndrive or an outboard, and in Europe almost without exception as imports. For imported American boats a rule applies to the valuation that is often ignored: the replacement value in Europe is higher than the US purchase price, because freight, import and conversion are added to it. The agreed value should reflect the European figure.
The second point with imported boats is the CE marking. A boat without a CE category may not be placed on the market in the EU, and the category determines which sea area it is designed for. For the insurance this is the basis for choosing the cruising range: a boat in category C is built for waters close to the coast, not for the Bay of Biscay. Cruising range and design category should match.

Frequent questions
Does the CE category matter for the insurance?

For the Monterey 180 / 256 (classic) by Monterey series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
As the Monterey M4 / M6, Monterey 295 / 335 SY,
Monterey 218 / 258 SS by Monterey and 4 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Monterey 242 / 270 CR Cruiser, Monterey Montura 248 / 268,
Monterey 268 SC / Montura 248 LSC by Monterey and 1 more series the market value and the
replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Monterey 180 / 256 (classic), Monterey M4 / M6,
Monterey 218 / 258 SS by Monterey and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Monterey 295 / 335 SY, Monterey 385 SY,
Monterey 242 / 270 CR Cruiser by Monterey and further series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
