Personal accident cover for occupants
Boat insurance term, area: Contract
Personal accident cover for occupants pays when people on board are injured or killed in an accident, whoever was at fault. It complements liability cover, which only pays when someone else is legally liable. Typically the sum insured is divided among the people on board at the time of the accident, and the policy defines who counts as an insured person. Example: a guest slips on a wet deck while berthing and breaks a wrist.
What to check: Two questions for your own policy: who is an insured person, only the owner, the family, or every authorised person on board? And is the sum insured paid per person, or divided by the number of people on board when the accident happens?
