Security requirements

Boat insurance term, area: Theft

Conditions that must be met for theft to be insured: a locked building, a fenced compound, a fitted immobiliser, a hitch lock on the trailer. If a requirement is not met, the insurer may refuse the claim or the excess may double. Such requirements tend to be strictest for outboards, personal watercraft and boats kept on a trailer.

What to check: Which security measures are required, and do they apply at all times or only when the boat is unattended? Is a specific approved immobiliser, tracker or outboard lock named in the wording?
