Can you get supplementary health insurance without health questions?
In short
Yes, you can get supplementary health insurance without health questions in Germany, mainly for dental, hospital and travel cover. Dental plans without questions cost about EUR 16 to 20 a month at 19, hospital plans about EUR 3 to 19 at 30. The catch: payout caps in the first years, often accident only or room only, and treatment already advised is never covered.
Published monthly premiums for plans without health questions in Germany, with a dental plan with short questions for comparison.
Example
Typical range
Dental without health questions, 90 to 100 percent for dentures, age 19
about EUR 15.70 to 20 a month
Hospital without health questions, accident only, age 30
about EUR 2.88 to 4.60 a month
Hospital without health questions, single or double room only, age 30
about EUR 5.24 to 18.53 a month
For comparison: dental plan with short health questions, age 30
about EUR 10.75 to 23.89 a month
As of May to October 2026, from published plan examples.
Premiums depend on age and scope; we obtain the exact offer for you.
Worked example
Age 45, high blood pressure, one crown already advised
With health questions he risks a surcharge or refusal. A dental plan without health questions accepts him, but not for everything.
Advised crown, about EUR 800 own share
not covered, he pays it
New implant in year three, own share EUR 2,500
covered, cap in year three EUR 3,750
Crown on another tooth in year six
covered, no first years cap
The plan pays off for future dental work, not for the crown already advised. No regular plan will cover that crown.
Which types of cover skip health questions
Supplementary health insurance without health questions is not available for every module. You find it most often for dental cover (Zahnzusatzversicherung) and for hospital plans that pay only after an accident or only for the room.
For glasses, alternative practitioners (Heilpraktiker) and outpatient care, most plans ask at least a few short questions. Without any questions you usually only get these through an employer plan.
Module
Without health questions?
The catch
Dental
yes, some plans with high reimbursement
caps in the first years, missing teeth excluded
Hospital
yes, as accident plan or room only plan
no chief physician when you are ill
Travel health abroad
almost always
only on trips, not for planned treatment
Employer plan (bKV)
usually yes, often no waiting period
only while you work there
Outpatient, glasses, Heilpraktiker
rarely
short questions about ongoing treatment
What skipping the questions costs you
A plan without health questions also accepts people who will soon need treatment. Insurers price this in: these plans cost more or pay much less in the first years.
The gap is widest for hospital cover. Without questions you usually get accident only cover for about EUR 3 to 5 a month, or a single or double room without the chief physician (Chefarzt). Chief physician treatment for illness is almost only available with questions.
The limits, plainly
Treatment your dentist or doctor advised or started before the policy began is excluded, even in a plan without health questions. No questions does not mean existing problems are covered.
Dental plans without health questions usually exclude teeth that are already missing and not yet replaced. On top comes the staggered cap (Zahnstaffel): one example plan pays up to EUR 1,250 in year one, EUR 2,500 in year two and has no cap only from year five.
Why no questions can be an advantage
Under § 19 (1) of the Insurance Contract Act (VVG) you only have to disclose what the insurer asked about in text form. With supplementary health insurance without health questions, nobody can later hold a wrong or forgotten answer against you.
This helps people with pre-existing conditions who would face surcharges, exclusions or a refusal in plans with questions. New illnesses after the start are then fully covered, only the known problem stays out.
When you do not need a plan without questions
If you are healthy and no treatment is planned, a plan with health questions usually gives more cover for less money. A 30 year old pays from about EUR 11 a month for a dental plan with short questions.
If your employer already offers a company health plan (betriebliche Krankenversicherung), check what it covers before buying a separate plan without health questions.
