MAPFRE ESPAÑA, COMPAÑIA DE SEGUROS Y REASEGUROS, S.A. has its head office in Madrid, Spain. The Spanish insurance supervisor DGSFP lists it under code C0058. This page explains where your cancellation goes, the notice period under Spanish law, how to report a claim and whom to contact with a complaint.
How to cancel with Mapfre España
Send the cancellation to the address on your policy. If none is given, the head office is right:
MAPFRE ESPAÑA, COMPAÑIA DE SEGUROS Y REASEGUROS, S.A.CTRA. DE POZUELO, 50
28222 Madrid
Spain
Spanish policies usually renew for one year at a time. To stop the renewal you must tell the insurer in writing at least one month before the current period ends; the insurer needs two months (article 22 of the Spanish Insurance Contract Act, Ley 50/1980).
Give your policy number, your name and the date, and ask for confirmation of receipt.
Reporting a claim to Mapfre España
- Spanish law requires you to report the loss within seven days of learning about it, unless the policy allows longer (article 16, Ley 50/1980).
- You must do what you can to limit the consequences (article 17, Ley 50/1980).
- Collect photos, receipts and names of witnesses; for theft you also need a police report (denuncia).
- Keep your policy number at hand.
Phone and website from the register; your policy takes precedence.
Complaints about Mapfre España
Each year the Spanish supervisor DGSFP publishes which insurers drew the most complaints to its complaints service. Mapfre España appears in these tables of the 2024 report:
- Most complaints: rank 1 of 25, 864 complaints (734 the year before)
- Largest premium volume: rank 10 of 25
- Highest rate per policy: rank 11 of 25
- Cases decided: 454, of which 192 in favour of the customer, including cases where the insurer gave in
- Complaints to the insurer's own customer service compared: rank 13 of 25
Rank 1 means the most complaints or the highest rate. The DGSFP does not rate insurer quality with this list; large insurers have more customers and therefore more complaints.
Where to complain
In Spain every insurer must run its own complaints service (Servicio de Atención al Cliente). If it does not answer or the answer does not satisfy you, you can turn to the complaints service of the supervisor DGSFP (Orden ECC/2502/2012).
