How the place works
The meltemi blows from north to northeast in July and August, often for several days at a time and reinforced in the channels between the islands. It arrives under a blue sky, with no cloud to warn you, and only appears to drop in the evening. The sea is short and steep because the fetch between islands is short.
What breaks there
The charter fleet gets caught while berthing: stern to the quay, stern lines, bow anchor, and six on the beam. The result is steering gear, bathing platforms and gelcoat, plus anchors fouled in other people's chain.
What this means for your policy
On a chartered boat it is the deposit that applies, not your policy, and that is the most common misunderstanding. Anyone keeping their own boat in Greece should settle what counts as adequate securing in a meltemi and whether the policy imposes conditions for the summer months.
