How the place works
Between autumn and spring the Atlantic lows come through at short intervals, often less than twenty-four hours apart. The tidal stream sets across the north to south route, and not all harbours on the Welsh coast are approachable in a westerly gale.
What breaks there
The typical case is a passage planned between two lows that ends up in the second. What then goes in the file is sustained loading on rig and fittings, plus water ingress through hatches and vents.
What this means for your policy
For British waters two points are worth checking: whether the cruising range covers them at all, and whether there is a seasonal restriction. Some policies cover the Irish Sea only between April and October.
