How the place works
At the cape two oceans with different water temperatures and opposing currents meet, and the Cape peninsula accelerates the southeaster considerably in summer. The cross sea off Cape Point is why the rounding is only made with a secured weather window.
What breaks there
Slamming loads on fittings and steering gear, plus anchor damage in the bays of the peninsula when the southeaster sets in at night. The yards in Cape Town and Simon's Town are good, but the waiting time is long.
