How the place works
The Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java is narrow, busy and has strong tidal streams, plus the volcanic island Anak Krakatau, whose surroundings are closed from time to time. The Java Sea beyond is shallow, with drilling platforms and fish farms that are not all charted.
What breaks there
Nets, fish farms and unlit barges are the most common collision partners, and in the shallows grounding is added. Debris is a constant issue here, especially after heavy rain.
