SONO Krankenversicherung a.G. has its head office in Bottrop, Germany. The German regulator BaFin lists the company as a health insurer under register number 4082. This page explains where your cancellation must go, how to submit bills and how often customers complained to the regulator.
Send the cancellation to the address printed on your policy schedule (Versicherungsschein). If none is given there, the head office is the right address:
SONO Krankenversicherung a.G.For contracts signed after 30 September 2016 a letter or an email is enough: German law no longer allows consumer contracts to demand more than text form (section 309 no. 13 of the Civil Code). Give your policy number, your name and the date the contract should end, and ask for written confirmation. A German letter is not required, but it avoids delays.
If the contract can be taken out on the insurer's website, the site must also offer a clearly visible cancellation button (section 312k of the Civil Code).
Private health insurance
three months to the end of the policy year
Cancelling is rarely the right question here. Switching insurer costs part of the ageing reserves, and going back to the statutory system depends on age and income. Changing tariff inside the same company is usually the cheaper route, and the law allows it.
Special right to cancel: A cancellation only takes effect once you prove that new health cover is in place.
Health and care top up policies
three months before renewal, often after a minimum term
Many top up tariffs run for a minimum of two years before the normal notice period applies. With dental cover, waiting periods and yearly limits start again in the new contract, so switching shortly before planned treatment costs you cover.
Special right to cancel: A premium increase opens a one month window to cancel here as well.

SONO Krankenversicherung a.G. does not appear in BaFin's complaint statistics for 2023 to 2025. The statistics only list companies with at least one closed complaint in one of the eight classes covered.
