Repatriation of the boat, in the boat insurance glossary

Boat insurance term, area: Claims

Repatriation is the question of who brings a boat home after damage has left it behind somewhere. A yard near the scene may be unable to finish the work in reasonable time, so the boat needs a crane, a trailer, customs papers and sometimes a skipper to sail it back. Wordings rarely put this in the hull section. It tends to sit in an assistance annex with a cap per event and two triggers: a deadline by which the boat cannot be made seaworthy again, and repair costs that stay below the price of an equivalent second hand boat.

What to check: Two questions for your own contract: does it pay for transport to the home port, and up to what amount per event? And what triggers it, how many weeks may pass before the boat counts as not seaworthy, and is the cost measured against the value of a comparable used boat?
