You know a place we do not

Our cruising area map carries 117 places where it regularly gets expensive: shoals, wrecks, current edges, channels shared with commercial traffic. We put that list together from claim files and local regulations. What is missing from it is known by the people who go there.

Hence this page. A single report is worth something on its own, because it stands by itself and helps anybody who sails into that area. You do not have to be a customer and you do not have to buy anything.

What makes a report usable

The position, as precisely as you canA kilometre mark, a buoy, a bearing, or simply two hundred metres east of the harbour entrance. Roughly is better than not at all.
When it becomes dangerousAt low water, with the wind onshore, in spring after the floods. Most places are not always dangerous, only sometimes.
What actually happens thereWhat it cost and who it catches. A rudder blade, a propeller, a torn open bottom: that is the difference between a rumour and a warning.

What we do not need: the harbourmaster's name, the argument on the pontoon, or whose fault it was. This is about the place, not about people.

The report

Coordinates are welcome, they are not required.

Many places are only dangerous for certain boats. That belongs in the report.

What happens to your report

Your report arrives here as an email and goes nowhere else. A person in the office reads it, checks it and only then puts it on the page. Nothing is published automatically. Your name does not appear anywhere, nor your address: what gets published is the substance itself. If we do not understand something, we write to you. If we decide not to publish your report, we tell you that as well.
