Calculate the day's run, how far you get before sunset
Hours until sunset times your speed over ground, keeping one hour in reserve for the harbour entrance.
Calculator
The last hour before dark belongs to the harbour entrance, not to making miles. Anyone entering an unfamiliar harbour after dark picks out buoys and pierhead lights among the street lamps, and misses shoals that would be obvious by day.
A night passage is not a question of cover but of preparation. For boats and yachts our hull cover applies around the clock in every tariff. A night clause exists only for the jetski, there in Basis and Basis-Plus between 22:00 and 08:00. We do not require an immobiliser in any tariff.
The rest is down to you: the prescribed navigation lights and a proper lookout. A collision at night without the correct lights is precisely where the question of gross negligence is bound to come up.
