Replacement skipper, in the boat insurance glossary

Boat insurance term, area: Claims

A replacement skipper is an experienced hand sent out to bring a boat home when the owner or the skipper can no longer do it. Wordings rarely put this in the hull section; it tends to sit in an assistance annex, and the triggers there are narrow: an accident, a medically certified illness lasting more than a few days, a death, and nobody else aboard who could take the helm. The money side is normally a daily rate with a ceiling per event. A case from the water: the skipper breaks a wrist on the pontoon in Corfu and the two guests aboard hold no licence.

What to check: Two questions for your own contract: does it arrange and pay for a skipper to sail the boat back to the home port, and what is the daily rate and the ceiling per event? And which triggers count, how many days of certified illness, and must the rest of the crew be unable to bring her home?
