Noforeignland wins the Trans-Ocean Ocean Award 2026

Trans-Ocean e.V., the German bluewater sailing association, has presented its Ocean Award 2026 to Noforeignland, a free platform where cruisers share anchorages, entry rules and local contacts. Noforeignland wins the honour at the club's 57th awards evening in Cuxhaven.

At the awards evening for its 57th Trans-Ocean prizes in Cuxhaven, the German bluewater association Trans-Ocean e.V. honoured 14 crews in total. The Ocean Award went to Helena and Steve Neal, founders of the sailing platform Noforeignland, who joined live by video from their boat in Panama. The club cited their worldwide network and their commitment to the global long distance cruising community. Trans-Ocean reported the awards on 1 November 2026.

Noforeignland has existed since 2017. It is free and maintained by its users: sailors collect information on anchorages, spare parts, entry requirements and local contacts and keep it up to date. According to Trans-Ocean, many of its own members contribute regularly. The Neals describe Noforeignland as a free service for the cruising community, which they develop and run together.

The evening's top prize, the Trans-Ocean Preis, went to Austrian sailor Lisa Berger and her British co-skipper Jade Edwards-Leaney for their Globe40 round the world race. The club says more than 200 members came to Cuxhaven and around 700 viewers watched the livestream. A highlights video of just under six minutes is on the club's YouTube channel.

What this means for owners

For crews heading offshore, shared and current local knowledge is one of the most useful tools there is. Before entering a new country it is worth checking the latest entry requirements from those who have just cleared in, and noting where other crews found good holding. It is also a good moment to ask your own insurer whether your cruising area covers every leg you plan.
