Will a Teilkasko claim push up my no-claims class in Germany?
In short
Will a Teilkasko claim push up my no-claims class in Germany? No. Partial cover (Teilkasko) has no no-claims class (SF-Klasse), so a broken windscreen, deer collision, hail or theft costs you no class. Under the model terms this even applies when your fully comprehensive policy pays such a claim. Your premium can still rise in other ways: through cancellation after a claim or new type and regional classes.
What Teilkasko costs in Germany and what a downgrade would mean in comparison, as ranges from published averages.
Example
Typical range
Teilkasko only, driver aged 35, compact car
about 100 to 300 euros a year
Liability with Teilkasko
about 300 to 700 euros a year
Vollkasko only
about 400 to 900 euros a year
Downgrade after a Teilkasko claim
0 euros, there is no class
As of October 2026, averages for a 35 year old driver in SF 10.
Repair costs for chips and windscreens are guide values from quoting practice.
Worked example
Stone chip and deer in the same year
A driver with Vollkasko in SF 12 reports a new windscreen and a collision with a deer.
Windscreen replaced via Teilkasko
about 900 euros, minus 150 euros excess
Deer collision, front damage
about 2,500 euros, minus 150 euros excess
Vollkasko class on 1 January
rises as usual to SF 13
Risk
insurer cancels after one of the claims
No downgrade, the class keeps improving. The only open question is whether the insurer cancels.
Why a Teilkasko claim does not move your class
Under the German model terms, the no-claims class (Schadenfreiheitsklasse, SF) applies only to motor liability and fully comprehensive cover (Vollkasko). Partial cover (Teilkasko) has a flat premium without a discount ladder. A Teilkasko claim therefore cannot push you into a worse class.
This also holds if you have Vollkasko and the stone chip or marten damage is settled under it. The model terms say the contract stays claim free as long as the event belongs to Teilkasko.

Where Teilkasko ends
What counts is the event that caused the damage. If you swerve to avoid an animal and end up in a ditch without touching it, that is not a Teilkasko collision with game but an accident only Vollkasko covers, with a downgrade.
The model terms cover collisions with hoofed game (Haarwild). Whether other animals are included in your Teilkasko depends on your policy terms.
How a Teilkasko claim can still cost money
After any claim, you and your insurer may cancel the contract, Teilkasko claims included. Several glass or marten claims in a short time can lead to a cancellation, and you then need a new policy.
Insurers also reset type classes (Typklasse) and regional classes (Regionalklasse) every year based on all claims for a model or region. A higher premium in January is then down to statistics, not your single Teilkasko claim.
When not to report a Teilkasko claim
If the repair costs barely exceed your excess, little is left. With a 150 euro excess and a chip repair of about 100 to 150 euros, you pay anyway.
Many policies waive the excess if the windscreen is repaired rather than replaced. Ask your insurer before you book the garage.
Step by step
Check that the damage is a Teilkasko event: glass, game, storm, hail, fire, theft.
Compare the excess with the repair cost.
For glass, ask about repair without excess.
Take photos and report promptly.
After a deer collision, call the police or the hunting tenant for a certificate.
After settlement, watch for a cancellation and compare offers.

Questions and answers
Frequently asked
Does a glass claim count against my no-claims class?
No.
Glass is Teilkasko, and Teilkasko has no class.
What if my Vollkasko pays the Teilkasko claim?
The model terms still treat the contract as claim free if the event belongs to Teilkasko.
Can the insurer cancel after a Teilkasko claim?
Yes.
After any claim both sides may cancel within one month after settlement.
Why did my premium go up anyway?
Usually new type or regional classes or a general tariff change that applies to all customers.
