Engine hours are the boat's odometer reading. The intervals are set out in the engine manual and differ between outboards, inboards and diesel engines, so the numbers here are typical guide figures, not the maintenance schedule for your engine.
When a claim arises, maintenance becomes a matter of proof. Engine damage after a missed oil change is not a sudden external event but wear and tear, and wear and tear is not covered by any property policy. If you can produce evidence of the oil change, you shift the discussion from the question “Wear and tear?” to the question “What happened?”
