The maximum permitted load is given on the CE plate or in the boat's papers. It is reached quickly: four people already come to three hundred and twenty kilograms, a full two-hundred-litre tank another hundred and seventy. What remains after that is less than most owners assume.
Overloading reduces freeboard, stability and manoeuvrability all at once. In a seaway an overloaded boat ships water it can no longer clear, and the chain of events that ends in a capsize is a short one.
In insurance terms, exceeding the permitted number of persons or the maximum permitted load is a breach of your obligations under the policy. If that causes a loss, the settlement may be reduced in proportion to the severity of the fault, and that applies in every tariff.
