Making a claim in English
Short answer
Policy, conditions and correspondence come in English; and the people you write to are the ones who decide, not a department that has never seen your boat.
We are an Assekuradeur, which has no exact equivalent in the English-speaking market. The closest description is a managing general agent: we underwrite and settle claims under delegated authority from the insurer who carries the risk. For you the practical consequence is that the person answering the phone can make the decision, rather than passing your file to someone else.
Everything runs in your language, not just the first phone call: policy, conditions and the entire correspondence are available in English and in Spanish. That includes the letters that matter; the loss adjuster's report, the settlement offer, the exchange with the yard. You should not have to run a claim through a translation tool.
Claims from the Balearics and the Spanish mainland are handled by our own office in Spain, in Spanish, while you continue to deal with us in English if that is what you prefer.
What to do first: photograph the damage before anything is moved, get the other party’s details if there is one, and call us before you commission a repair. Not because we want to approve every invoice, but because the early decisions; tow, emergency lift-out, choice of yard; shape the cost and are easier to make together.
Questions
What owners ask us about this
Will I be dealing with a call centre?
No. You deal with the same people who underwrite the policies, and they can decide on your claim.
Are the policy conditions available in English?
Yes; policy and conditions are issued in English, and in Spanish if you prefer. Not a summary: the full wording.
What if the damage happens abroad?
You report it to us in English. We handle the local side, including in Spanish through our office in Spain.
