Worth knowing
Barnet Marine Centre Ltd; cover, cost and conditions
Barnet Marine Centre is listed with 21 models, all rigid inflatable boats. The models carry the code XS and the length in centimetres, from the XS 360 through 450, 460, 500, 515, 540, 545, 550, 570 and 585 to the XS 600 and 600 Sport. Build years run since 2005, lengths from 3.6 to 9.9 m.
RIBs combine a hard hull with buoyancy tubes and are driven accordingly hard. For insurance that means engine power drives the premium more than length does, and a powerful outboard often makes up the larger share of the value. Both belong precisely in the policy; estimated figures lead to reductions after a loss.
NAMMERT insures rigid inflatable boats regardless of build year and place of purchase, including boats bought in Britain. As these boats usually travel on a trailer and are often stored ashore, transport and theft belong in the hull cover. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What is the difference between an inflatable and a RIB?
A RIB has a solid hull of composite or aluminium with tubes fitted to it. It is faster and more seaworthy, but heavier and more expensive, which shows in the sum insured.
Is my boat insured ashore in winter storage?
With hull cover that includes time ashore, yes. That matters because storm, fire and theft in winter storage are common causes of loss, often more so than operation on the water.

What matters for inflatables and RIBs is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
