Worth knowing
Berger; cover, cost and conditions
Under the name Berger, 22 models are recorded: 11 inflatables, 10 small motorboats and one RIB. The largest share is made up of the Lomac inflatables in sizes 260 to 600 and the Lomac 750 as a rigid hull version, together with the small Baby, Baby Sport and Junior motorboats. Build years run from 1974 to 2003, lengths from 2.6 to 7.5 m.
On boats of this size liability cover is the core of the protection, because damage to someone else's yacht easily exceeds the value of your own boat many times over. Hull cover is worthwhile above all for the engine and the theft risk: inflatable and outboard are quickly loaded away and usually disappear together.
As the recorded build years end in 2003, these boats are used boats today. NAMMERT insures them regardless of build year and place of purchase. The condition of the tubes largely determines the value, so an honest assessment is worthwhile when stating the sum insured. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
My boat is called Lomac and was bought from Berger. Which brand applies?
Both entries lead to the same record with us. In any case what counts for the policy is length, build year, engine power, value and cruising area, not the spelling on the purchase contract.
How do I estimate the value of an old inflatable?
From the condition of the tubes and from the engine. A porous tube lowers the value noticeably, a new outboard raises it. State a realistic figure so that the sum holds up after a loss.

What matters for inflatables and RIBs is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
