Worth knowing
Catalac Catamarans Ltd.; cover, cost and conditions
Catalac Catamarans is listed with 10 models, all sailing catamarans. The yard used two designations side by side: metre figures such as the Catalac 8 m, 9 m and 12, and foot figures such as the Catalac 27, 30, 34 and 41. Build years run from 1968 to 1998, lengths from 8.1 to 12.5 m.
Cruising catamarans of this generation are robust, beamy ships with plenty of living space. Two points are typical for insurance: the beam calls for special berths and makes craning and slipping more involved, and a substantial share of damage arises exactly there. Second, these boats are classics today, whose value comes from condition and refit rather than a depreciation table.
NAMMERT insures Catalac catamarans regardless of build year and of where they were bought. On well kept ships we recommend an agreed fixed value based on a survey. If you are planning a long passage, extend the cruising area beforehand. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Why does a catamaran cost more than a monohull of the same length?
Because the value is higher and berth, craning and repair are more involved with two hulls. The calculator shows the exact difference once length, value and cruising area are entered.
Why do some models carry metres and others feet in the name?
That is the yard's notation: Catalac 9 m means 9 metres, Catalac 30 means 30 feet. For the policy the length in metres from the registration papers always counts.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
