Worth knowing
Quorning; cover, cost and conditions
Twenty-three model ranges are recorded, among them cabin trimarans of the Dragonfly family. The types 25, 28, 32, 36 and 40 have been built since 2006 and up to the present day. Older ranges have been discontinued: the Dragonfly 35 Ultimate in 2021, the Dragon Fly 1200 Ocean Cruiser in 2018 and the Dragon Fly 35 Touring in 2013.
Multihulls run with us under the same boat insurance as monohulls. What counts for the premium is the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range, never the name of the yard. Whether inland waters or coast does make a difference here, and a later extension of the cruising area should be reported.
For journeys across the border you receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages. Club races are included from Basis-Plus onwards.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are trimarans such as a Dragonfly 32 rated differently?
No. Multihulls run under the same boat insurance as monohulls. What is decisive is the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range, not the brand.
Do I have to report a change of cruising range?
Yes, the cruising range is a premium factor. Anyone moving from inland waters to the coast or venturing further out should have the contract adjusted so that cover remains seamless.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a trimaran the floats and their beams are the weak point, on folding models the mechanism as well.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
