Privilège Catamarans; cover, cost and conditions
Privilège builds owner catamarans in the upper segment in Les Sables-d'Olonne, craft that do not go into charter fleets but are sailed by one owner over many years. This shows in the equipment and therefore in the sum insured: hydraulic winches, bow thruster, extensive navigation electronics, air conditioning and generator add up to amounts that should not be lumped into the boat value.
Separating boat value, technical equipment and electronics is the point at which contracts differ with these boats. On a Privilège catamaran the electronics are regularly a five-figure item, and in the event of a total loss only what is stated in the application is replaced. List the items individually and update them after every retrofit, a new radar or a satellite system belongs in a report, not in a remark made only when a claim occurs.
When it comes to the cruising range, Privilège owners mostly plan blue water voyages. Worldwide extension can be underwritten; for stays in the Caribbean during the hurricane season we require a berth in line with a hurricane plan or relocation outside the zone. Also check the inclusion of deliveries with an outside crew, on boats of this size deliveries are often contracted out, and a skipper crew is not automatically covered.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How do I insure the electronics correctly?
As a separate item in the application, not lumped into the boat value. Only reported values are replaced in full in the event of a total loss.
Is a delivery with an outside skipper covered?
Only with inclusion. Report deliveries with an outside crew in advance, then cover for that passage is stated in the contract.

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
