Worth knowing
Starboard; cover, cost and conditions
Starboard builds SUP boards and windsurf boards in Thailand across the whole range, from leisure boards to race sprints and competition windsurf boards. The carbon race boards are in the four figure range and are therefore the models for which hull insurance makes economic sense.
With carbon race boards breakage is the relevant type of loss. A board fourteen feet long and weighing a few kilograms is sensitive to point loads, during transport, while being carried, while being set down. This damage is covered as far as it comes from an event; delamination through ageing is not. Transport the board in its padded bag and on suitable racks.
For windsurf boards the rig material comes on top. Sail, mast, boom and fins can be insured as accessories if they are stated in the application, and with a well equipped windsurfer that adds up to more than the value of the board. For competition use you need the racing inclusion. We do not offer boat third-party liability for muscle-powered craft; check your private liability insurance.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are the sail, mast and boom included in the cover?
As accessories yes, if they are stated in the application. With a well equipped windsurfer the rig often exceeds the value of the board.
Is a break in a carbon board covered?
If it comes from an event, a fall, a point load, transport damage, then yes. Delamination through ageing is not.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
No licence required; muscle-powered craft are licence-free, federal waterways included.
Registration
No registration required. Some waters do ask for a local permit or sticker before you launch.
Waters
Inland lakes, rivers and the coast, mind nature-reserve rules; many stretches are closed seasonally.
Equipment
Buoyancy aid or lifejacket, buoyancy bags in the boat, spraydeck, a waterproof case for phone and papers, a whistle.
Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended for a single trip at any time.
Weather
Offshore wind is the main risk: it carries you away from the bank and makes the return hard. Check wind direction and the gust forecast before you launch.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

On paddle craft theft and transit damage are the rule, collisions the exception.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
