Worth knowing
Takacat International; cover, cost and conditions
Takacat builds open catamaran inflatables without a bow that pack down small and are quickly assembled. As a tender and as a second boat that is practical; for the insurance it is an inflatable boat with a transom: the engine determines the premium and the value, the hull is the smaller item.
Because the boat is regularly assembled and taken apart, damage arises above all during transport and ashore. Transport, launching and time ashore are included with us. Watch the air pressure when temperatures change, as a boat inflated too hard in the sun is an avoidable claim.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is damage during transport covered?
Yes, road transport, launching and craning are included.
What applies if a tube bursts from heat?
Excess pressure caused by sunlight is regarded as avoidable. Check the pressure when temperatures change, that is part of due care.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for inflatables and RIBs is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
Series by Takacat, with value and cover
Takacat LX 260 / 300 is an inflatable without engine from Takacat (New Zealand), built since 2010, and today changes hands at between €2,000 and €6,000.
Takacat Sport 340 / 420 is an inflatable with engine from Takacat (New Zealand), built since 2012, and today changes hands at between €4,000 and €12,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repairs are predictable. Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
