Worth knowing
Atana; cover, cost and conditions
Atana is recorded with six models: three motorboats, two sailing yachts and one open sailing boat. The sailing side consists of the Atana 26 and Atana 27, both at 8.6 m, and the Atana 30 at 9.7 m. On the power side stands the Cast range with the 475, 480 and 482, all at 4.8 m. Recorded production runs from 2011 into the current model years.
In insurance terms the Atana range falls into two groups. The 4.8 m Cast models are trailerable boats for which liability is the basis and for which road transport and theft of the outboard belong in the hull cover. The Atana 26 to 30 sailing models lie at a fixed berth, so cruising area, rig and sails and an accurate declared value are what count. Anyone who owns both types should insure them separately rather than under one combined entry.
NAMMERT insures Atana regardless of year of build and place of purchase. Sailing and motor models of the brand run through the same process, only with different details. The premium is calculated in the online quote tool in about five minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is a Cast 480 classified?
As a trailerable motorboat of 4.8 m. Liability forms the basis, while transport and the outboard can be added to the hull cover.
Does the same apply to the Atana 30 as to the motorboats?
No. On the 9.7 m Atana 30, berth, cruising area and the rig and sails take priority, because the boat stays in the water.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
