Worth knowing
Filippi Lido; cover, cost and conditions
Filippi builds racing rowing boats in the upper segment in Italy, carbon hulls for competition and training, in use at leading clubs worldwide. Carbon makes the boats light and fast, but also sensitive to point loads: an impact against the side that would only mark a wooden hull can delaminate a carbon laminate.
Delamination is the damage most often disputed on carbon racing boats. If it arises from an impact, a collision, a fall while carrying, contact with the jetty, it is a hull insurance claim. If it arises from ageing, moisture or repeated loading, it is material fatigue. Keep the maintenance history and report every incident that could later lead to delamination; the timing is what decides.
Particular care applies to the transport of these boats. A four on the trailer takes on airflow, vibration and point loads at the supports. Our hull insurance covers transport damage when suitable means are used, and suitable here means: padded supports at the intended points, secured riggers, a covered boat. Improper loading calls the cover into question.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
No licence required; muscle-powered craft are licence-free, federal waterways included.
Registration
No registration required. Some waters do ask for a local permit or sticker before you launch.
Waters
Inland lakes, rivers and the coast, mind nature-reserve rules; many stretches are closed seasonally.
Equipment
Buoyancy aid or lifejacket, buoyancy bags in the boat, spraydeck, a waterproof case for phone and papers, a whistle.
Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended for a single trip at any time.
Weather
Offshore wind is the main risk: it carries you away from the bank and makes the return hard. Check wind direction and the gust forecast before you launch.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
