Worth knowing
Lipro; cover, cost and conditions
Listed as cabin trimarans are the two model ranges recorded from Lipro, the K3 from 1994 to 2002 and the GK3 from 1997 to 2005. We have nothing more on record. We insure multihulls just like other boats, namely via a jointly set agreed value.
Small production runs and home-built boats are expressly insurable with us. Instead of a list price, we set the sum insured jointly and record equipment and installations in the schedule. Compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Third-party liability forms the basis with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros in the Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium levels. Club races are included from Basis-Plus. The cover also applies in winter storage, during craning, during launching and on the transport route.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are home-built boats and small production runs insurable?
Yes, we accept both. The sum insured is set as an agreed value instead of following a list price, and in the event of a claim no deduction for depreciation ("new for old") applies.
How are multihulls such as the GK3 rated?
They are listed as cabin trimarans. For the premium the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range count, just as with any other boat.

Series by Lipro, build years and cover
GK3 is a cabin trimaran from Lipro, built from 1997 to 2005.
K3 is a cabin trimaran from Lipro, built from 1994 to 2002.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a trimaran the floats and their beams are the weak point, on folding models the mechanism as well.
