Nautitech Catamarans; cover, cost and conditions
In Rochefort, Nautitech builds catamarans with twin rudders and outboard helm stations, sailing-oriented craft that are faster than the series average and are more often sailed on regatta courses. That is precisely the difference that matters for insurance: races are not automatically included in standard hull insurance. Anyone taking part in regattas needs the inclusion in the contract; without it, cover is missing for rig or collision damage during a race.
The two rudder systems are the second point. In a grounding the rudders absorb the force first, and a distorted rudder stock is more expensive than it looks, because the repair often requires removing the system in dry dock. Grounding is covered by our full hull cover, but the deductible has a double effect here: per claim, not per rudder. On a craft with two rudders and two saildrives, a lower deductible pays off sooner than on a monohull.
Nautitech hulls are built lighter than charter catamarans of the same length. That makes them fast and at the same time increases the importance of a correctly calculated sum insured: a lightweight hull is more complex to repair, because the laminate structure and the reinforcements cannot be patched to a standard pattern. Set the agreed value on the basis of a survey and adjust it after every major refit.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are regattas covered with my Nautitech?
Only with express inclusion. We include club races and open races for an additional premium; without this inclusion, damage during a race is not covered.
How does the deductible work with two rudders?
It applies per claim, not per damaged part. In a grounding with damage to both rudders you pay the deductible once.

Series by Nautitech, with value and cover
Nautitech 40 Open is a cabin catamaran from Nautitech (France), built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €280,000 and €950,000.
Nautitech 44 Open is a cabin catamaran from Nautitech (France), built since 2010, and today changes hands at between €320,000 and €690,000.
Nautitech 46 / 48 Fly is a cabin catamaran from Nautitech (France), built since 2015, and today changes hands at between €480,000 and €1,100,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
