Worth knowing
Novation Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Five cabin catamarans are on record: Cnam 105, Cnam 129, Polynesia, Profil 46 and Profil 57, all with construction years between 1986 and 1993. New units are no longer built, each of these catamarans is traded used today. This moves the replacement value into the centre.
When buying a used boat, what decides is which value is written into the contract. It is set as an agreed value, and full hull cover pays compensation with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. A year of construction of 1986 does not stand in the way of this.
On multihulls, alongside the type of boat, value and year of construction, the sail area counts, plus the cruising range. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros taking out the policy online is possible, above that an individual assessment follows. We insure regardless of place of purchase and previous owners.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Which value belongs in the contract for a used catamaran?
The replacement value, which is set as an agreed value. It is the calculation figure in the event of a claim, regardless of how many previous owners the boat has had.
Are there separate rules for cabin catamarans?
As with other boats, the premium arises from the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range. Collision, grounding and vandalism are covered in full hull cover.

What matters for catamarans and multihulls is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
