Regal Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Regal from Orlando builds bowriders, sport coupés and cabin boats in one piece; the FasTrac hull design with a stepped planing surface is Regal's hallmark and gets the boat on the plane sooner than a smooth V hull. In insurance terms a stepped hull means that with launching damage and groundings the damaged area often lies at the step itself, where laminate and reinforcement meet. Repair there is more complex than on a smooth surface, one reason not to set the agreed value too low.
Regal boats come almost throughout with a Volvo Penta sterndrive. The sterndrive is the most expensive single component outside the engine and the most frequent hull claim on trailer boats of all: grounding in shallow water, striking something while launching, corrosion because of a missing sacrificial anode. Our full hull cover covers grounding and impact damage to the drive; excluded is corrosion resulting from neglected anode maintenance. Anyone sailing in salt water should have the anodes checked annually and document this.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is the sterndrive of my Regal included?
Yes. The sterndrive is part of the permanently installed propulsion and is covered under full hull cover in the event of grounding, collision and impact damage. Not covered is corrosion arising from neglected anode maintenance; it counts as wear and tear.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
