Worth knowing
Sol; cover, cost and conditions
Four ranges are documented for Sol, the Happycat as an open catamaran and Platino, Brillante and Diamante as cabin catamarans, built between 1984 and 2000. Whether a boat is open or has a cabin is part of the type of boat with us and therefore goes into the rating.
We list multihulls as a type of boat of their own. Alongside it, value, year of construction and cruising range determine the premium, while the name of the yard never does. A Diamante and a Happycat are therefore looked at separately, even though both come from the same range and fall in the same years.
Production lies in the past, yet cover is provided regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. The agreed value records the value before the claim, indemnity is paid with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Small series and home builds are insurable as well.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How do you rate a catamaran?
The type of boat is a factor of its own in the premium, alongside value, year of construction and cruising range. The scope and tariff levels of third-party liability, full hull cover and limited hull cover are the same as for a single-hull boat.
Does cover also apply outside the season?
Yes. Winter storage, craning, launching and the road transport are included, and the boat trailer is included at no extra premium. Damage in winter storage is already part of limited hull cover.

What matters for catamarans and multihulls is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by Sol, build years and cover
Sol Happycat is an open catamaran from Sol, built from 1984 to 2000.
Sol Platino is a cabin catamaran from Sol, built from 1984 to 2000.
Sol Brillante is a cabin catamaran from Sol, built from 1984 to 1993.
Sol Diamante is a cabin catamaran from Sol, built from 1984 to 1993.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
Open catamarans are beached and trailed, so most damage happens ashore and in transit, not on the water.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
