Worth knowing
South Coast Boatyard; cover, cost and conditions
The Ocean Winds 33 cabin catamaran was built from 1976 to 1982 and is the only range available to us. Anyone taking it over today is buying used, and the price paid says little about what a replacement costs. It is precisely this value that we fix in the contract as an agreed value.
Compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. If a dispute with the seller arises after the purchase, legal expenses cover for water sports applies, which we offer as well. It equally covers disputes with a yard, for example after work on the hull.
We have no further information about the yard. For the contract the data of the boat are enough: type of boat, value, year of build, sail area and cruising range give the premium. We insure regardless of year of build, place of purchase and previous owners, small series and self-built boats included.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the value determined after a used purchase?
You agree an agreed value with us. It is based on replacement and is paid out in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
Do multihulls have to be reported separately?
The type of boat is one of the details given when taking out the policy, as are value, year of build, sail area and cruising range. The premium arises from these data.

Series by South Coast Boatyard, build years and cover
Ocean Winds 33 is a cabin catamaran from South Coast Boatyard, built from 1976 to 1982.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
