Two A4 pages for the file: sheet 1 takes the boat details and the insurance details, sheet 2 the inventory list with maker, serial number, date of purchase, value and total. Keep the filled in sheet somewhere other than on the boat, after a claim it is your proof of value.

Getting it down correctly
Permanently fitted equipment (engine, navigation, solar array, bow thruster) counts towards the value of the boat. Removable electronics such as a plotter, an echo sounder or a radio go down as technical equipment, rods or diving gear as watersports equipment. Personal effects are covered up to 3 % of the sum insured and that figure can be raised. Keep this sheet together with the purchase contract and the invoices somewhere other than on the boat; after a claim you prove the value through the purchase price you paid.
