Worth knowing
Cobra; cover, cost and conditions
Sixty model ranges are recorded under Cobra, among them motor boats and motor yachts such as the 210 Viper, the 230 Razor or the 260 Venom, with years of construction from 1998 to the present. Where such a boat is used has a bearing on the premium: the cruising range counts alongside the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the engine output.
Whether inland waters or coast, the extent of cover stays the same. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis, and hull insurance adds collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard. For trips abroad you receive the international certificate of insurance in ten languages.
A programme of this breadth means that boats from almost three decades lie in the water side by side. NAMMERT insures regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners, in full hull cover with an agreed value and with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), and in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How does the cruising range affect the policy?
The cruising range is one of the premium factors, alongside the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the engine output. You define it when you take out the policy, whether you sail on inland waters or along the coast.
Does cover also apply abroad?
Yes. NAMMERT issues the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages, so that you can present the proof in a harbour or during an inspection.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
