Worth knowing
Kesser; cover, cost and conditions
Not every brand appears in the big catalogues, and not every boat can be assigned to a series. For the insurance this is no obstacle: small series and home-built boats can be insured as well, regardless of the year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. What is decisive are the data of the boat, not how well known it is.
If a series designation is missing, the valuation list takes its place. The type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power or sail area and cruising range produce the premium, and the agreed value that has been arranged produces the compensation in the event of a claim, and that with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old").
A boat with the designation K-SB -1662 is insured with us, so the brand is not unfamiliar to us. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy is taken out online; above that we examine each case individually. Third-party liability, limited hull cover and full hull cover can be combined across the Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium levels.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can a boat without a known series be insured?
Yes. Small series and home-built boats can be insured, as can boats without a documented model range. The basis is the type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power and cruising range together with an arranged agreed value.
How is the agreed value arrived at for a rare brand?
It is arranged when the policy is taken out and is based on the purchase document and the valuation list. In the event of a claim, compensation follows this agreed value, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.
