In Portugal, Nelo builds racing kayaks and surfskis that are standard equipment at world championships and Olympic Games, carbon hulls of extreme lightness, with values from a few thousand to more than ten thousand euros. At these values and with this type of construction, hull insurance is not a side issue.
A carbon racing kayak weighs less than ten kilograms and is correspondingly sensitive to point loads. The most frequent damage does not occur on the water but while carrying the boat, in the boathouse and on the roof rack. Our hull insurance covers transport damage when suitable equipment is used, damage in the boathouse and collisions. Not covered are wear and tear and damage caused by improper storage; a racing kayak belongs on padded supports at the intended points.
With surfskis the cruising range is an additional factor. These boats are used on the open sea, in surf and in wind, waters that require an appropriate cruising range level. For the North Sea and the Baltic the corresponding level applies, for the Atlantic coast and the Canary Islands the next one. Please register training camps and competitions abroad in advance. We do not underwrite third-party liability for muscle-powered boats.

How do I store a carbon racing kayak correctly?
On padded supports at the intended points. Deformation and delamination caused by incorrect storage are a consequence of storage and are not covered.
