A calculator that calculates against us

Your boat’s next ten years.

Every insurer works out what a policy costs you. This one works out what will probably happen to your boat, year by year, with the cost.

And the policy the model calculates with:

Your course 6 events, on average one every 1.7 years. Of 29,200 € damage, 2,500 € stays with you, that is the deductible. The insurance carries the rest. A model, not a prediction: calculated with frequencies from 231 of our own claim files, February 2025 to July 2026.
29,200 €Total damage 2,500 €of that, with you 0 €of that, not insured 500 €Deductible per hull claim

The three moves

Ordered by effect, not by effort. Two of them cost nothing.

Never berth aloneCollision and impact are the most frequent case in the register, almost always in harbour. A second person on deck and an agreed sequence remove most of it.Costs nothing.
Keep the chart currentAfter every grounding comes the question of chart currency. A spring chart update is cheaper than a saildrive.Costs one hour a year.
Document the maintenanceAn engine failure is classed as wear if nothing else is on record. Keep invoices and engine hours, that later decides the payment.Costs nothing, works only when a claim comes.
How the oracle calculates, and what it cannot do

The ranking of causes comes from our own claims register: collision and impact lead by a distance, followed by storm and weather, grounding, engine and drive, and theft. How often an event occurs depends in the model on boat type, age, cruising area, berth and usage. Damage amounts are set as a share of the boat’s value, capped at a total loss.

What the model cannot do: it does not know your boat, your state of maintenance or your seamanship. It calculates with the average of 231 files from eighteen months, and that is a small number. Two owners with identical inputs have very different years in reality.

Why we show it anyway: the most frequent reason a claim fails with us is not a dispute over what happened, it is the choice of tariff. Whoever sees which cause is likely to hit them chooses differently. Even if they then sign elsewhere.

Now set the premium against it. Ten years of premium stand against 2,500 € that stays with you in this course. Work out both and decide on that, even if the decision goes against us. Get a quote Read the cover in full
