Cruising area

Boat insurance term, area: Contract

The cruising area, also called navigation limits, is the stretch of water agreed in the policy where cover applies. Sail beyond it and cover may fall away, and the area cannot be extended after the event. A passage outside the limits, such as crossing Biscay to reach the Mediterranean, needs agreeing before departure. Some policies also add exclusions for hurricane or cyclone zones.

What to check: Where exactly do the navigation limits end, and are there seasonal restrictions? Is there a hurricane or named storm clause, and does cover continue while the boat is laid up ashore, lifted or trailed?
