Worth knowing
McConaghy; cover, cost and conditions
With us the limit of indemnity in third-party liability ranges from 10 to 50 million euros, graded by tariff level. McConaghy builds racing yachts as well as cruising catamarans from 15 to 23 metres in China using carbon construction. With boats of this size it is worth looking closely at the level chosen.
Alongside the MC50 and MC55 as well as the MC63 and MC75 model ranges there is the Custom racing yacht, which has been built since 1995 and is still in production today. One-off builds and small series can be insured. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy is taken out online, above that an individual assessment follows.
If you race, settle this before the start. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and you declare races with ranking status when you take out the policy. Full hull cover also covers collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts and settles at the agreed value.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Which limit of indemnity can be chosen in third-party liability?
Depending on the tariff level, 10 to 50 million euros. The levels are called Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium. Third-party liability is the basis, limited hull cover and full hull cover build on it.
How are races treated?
Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards. You declare races with ranking status when you take out the policy, so that they are expressly stated in the contract and are not disputed later.

Series by McConaghy, with value and cover
McConaghy MC50 / MC55 is a cabin catamaran from McConaghy (China), built since 2018, and today changes hands at between €1,400,000 and €2,600,000.
McConaghy MC63 / MC75 is a cabin catamaran from McConaghy (China), built since 2020, and today changes hands at between €2,600,000 and €5,500,000.
McConaghy Rennyacht Custom is a sailing yacht from McConaghy (China), built since 1995, and today changes hands at between €690,000 and €6,800,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
